Samsung's Odyssey G6 hits 1,100 Hz, but the 600 Hz QHD mode is the real spec

The headline number is a setting, not the monitor

Samsung used Gamescom 2026 to put a four-digit refresh rate on a press release again. The Odyssey G6 G60H is now billed as the world’s first 1,100 Hz gaming monitor.

That number is real, but it is not what you get at the panel’s native resolution. Samsung’s dual-mode spec tops out at 600 Hz at 2560×1440. The 1,100 Hz mode requires dropping to a much lower resolution (Samsung quotes HD dual-mode, which lands at 1280×720 on this panel, not full 1080p).

If you are shopping for a monitor you will actually use at desk distance, 600 Hz QHD is the spec worth tracking. The 1,100 Hz figure is for competitive players who already run reduced resolutions and want the box to say they won the refresh-rate war.

Samsung has not announced pricing. Global availability is targeted for the second half of 2026. Until a price lands, treat the 1,100 Hz headline as marketing leverage against LG’s upcoming 1,000 Hz UltraGear, not a buying target for most people.

What Samsung announced at Gamescom

Samsung refreshed its Odyssey lineup for 2027 at Gamescom in Cologne. The centerpiece is the 27-inch Odyssey G6 G60H, an IPS-based Fast LCD that Samsung first teased in December and showed at CES 2026.

The CES demo quoted 1,040 Hz in the low-res dual mode. Gamescom locked the final launch spec at 1,100 Hz, a 60 Hz bump that The Verge notes may be as much about bragging rights against LG as perceptible motion clarity.

Core G60H specs Samsung is sticking with:

  • Native resolution: 2560×1440 (QHD)
  • Native refresh: up to 600 Hz at QHD
  • Dual-mode refresh: up to 1,100 Hz at HD (1280×720 on this panel)
  • Response time: 1 ms (quoted)
  • Panel type: Fast IPS

At 1,100 Hz, a new frame lands roughly every 0.91 ms. At 240 Hz that interval is 4.17 ms. At 480 Hz it is 2.08 ms. The math only helps if your PC can actually deliver hundreds of frames per second in the game you play.

Samsung also announced three OLED siblings for 2027:

49-inch Odyssey OLED G9: Samsung calls it the first 49-inch DQHD monitor at 360 Hz (5120×1440), or 720 Hz in dual HD mode (2560×720). Specs include 0.03 ms response, up to 1,300 nits peak brightness, fifth-gen QD-OLED, and Penta Tandem tech.

32-inch Odyssey OLED G8: Three switchable modes: 4K at 360 Hz, 1440p at 520 Hz, and 1080p at 680 Hz. Also 0.03 ms response, DisplayHDR True Black 600, DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, HDMI, and 98W USB-C with KVM.

42-inch Odyssey OLED G7: Samsung bills it as the first 42-inch 16:9 curved OLED at this size. 4K, 165 Hz, 1000R curve, 0.03 ms response, Glare Free coating. Screen area is about 72% larger than the previous 32-inch G7.

None of the OLED models have prices yet. Samsung says 2027 availability will vary by market.

Dual mode changes the buying math

Monitor makers are no longer selling you a single product. They are selling a mode switch: crisp resolution for story games and desktop work, then a downscaled, ultra-high refresh profile for esports.

On the G60H, that trade is steep. Going from 1440p to the 1,100 Hz mode throws away three quarters of the pixels. At 27 inches, 1280×720 is roughly 54 PPI. Competitive players who already run reduced render scales in Counter-Strike, Valorant, or Overwatch may not care. Everyone else is buying a 600 Hz QHD IPS panel with a party trick in the settings menu.

The scaling math is clean: 720p doubles evenly into 1440p, so the scaler’s job is easier than odd downscales that smear edges. That is a real engineering footnote, not just a Hz chase.

Choose the G60H if: you play fast tactical shooters at reduced resolution today, you want native QHD for non-competitive games, and you have a GPU that can push very high frame rates in those titles.

Skip the 1,100 Hz hype if: you sit at a normal desk distance and care about text clarity, you mostly play at native resolution, or your rig struggles to hold 240 Hz stable. You are not missing a hidden feature. You are avoiding a soft 720p mode.

Dealbreaker until price drops: no MSRP. A 600 Hz QHD IPS with dual-mode overhead will not be cheap, and Samsung’s Odyssey line rarely undercuts itself.

The rest of the 2027 Odyssey stack

The G6 is the Hz headline, but the OLED trio shows where Samsung thinks “premium gaming” actually lives in 2027.

The G9 ultra-wide is the desk takeover option: one panel, two refresh tiers, absurd width. Useful if you want sim racing or productivity wrapped around your head. Painful if you hate curved 49-inch ergonomics or need consistent pixel density across the whole canvas.

The G8 32-inch is the flexible OLED: 4K clarity, mid refresh, or 680 Hz at 1080p without jumping all the way down to 720p. For mixed use (competitive nights, cinematic weekends), this is the more balanced dual-mode pitch than the G6’s 720p ceiling.

The G7 42-inch is the living-room-adjacent curve: big 4K OLED, modest 165 Hz, aggressive 1000R bend. Pick it if size and immersion beat refresh. Skip it if you wanted the G8’s mode switching in a smaller footprint.

Who should wait for pricing

Samsung’s Gamescom drop is a spec sheet, not a shopping list. No prices, staggered availability, and a refresh-rate race that already has LG at 1,000 Hz shipping in September.

Bottom line: The interesting number on the G6 is 600 Hz at 1440p, because that is a mode you can use without turning a 27-inch panel into mush. The 1,100 Hz badge is for players who were already optimizing frame times in milliseconds and will toggle dual mode anyway.

If you are not in that camp, wait. Let early adopters pay the Odyssey premium, watch whether LG’s 1,000 Hz panel lands at a saner price, and buy when Samsung publishes real numbers. A faster monitor you cannot afford is just a press release with a higher refresh rate.
